Completed to date:
The University has repaired the fountain in the Bourne Mansion’s
courtyard and completed new brickwork in the driveway. Lighting and
landscaping have been added to the entryway, and the first-floor
interior has been repaired as well.
Plants now beautify the mansion’s main entrance (Gate 2), and
new signage soon will be in place. Landscaping there has been
improved and further enhancements are planned.
At the end of the mansion’s driveway, wrought iron gates have
been repaired and painted, and landscape has been significantly
upgraded.
Additional security patrols are on campus to safeguard buildings
and assist guests at on-site activities.
This year, the Oakdale campus hosted several weddings, a
year-round au pair program, various community youth clinics and St.
John's Sports Academy’s volleyball and basketball camps.
Planned for the next six
months:
The Lake House will be weatherproofed and its exterior painted.
Repairs will be made to the Gate House roof and the Carriage House
will be weatherproofed. Completion is slated for Fall 2012.
As agreed upon with the Town of Islip, St. John’s will begin
demolition of the Service Cottage and Dudack Hall once permits are
received. The University will closely monitor the work to avoid
disturbing neighbors. Demolition is expected to be completed by
late Fall 2012.
The University is evaluating the Boat House’s structure and the
work needed to stabilize the Bourne Mansion’s windows.
