John’s Bread and Life presents its 13th Annual Johnny’s Angel
Awards Dinner on Thursday November 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the D’Angelo
Center at the University’s Queens campus.
Each year Bread & Life honors individuals who have made a
significant and long-term contribution towards fighting hunger and
providing a variety of services for those in need. This year’s
- Very Reverend Michael J. Carroll, C.M., Provincial Superior,
Eastern Province, Congregation of the Mission
- Steven M. Sweeney, President and CEO, Chartwells
- Edward F. O’Brien, retired Vice President & CRA Officer,
Ridgewood Savings Bank
- Wilfredo Morales, Senior Case Manager, St. John’s Bread and
Life and recipient of the 2010 Sister Bernadette Award
Sr. Margaret Mary Fitzpatrick, S.C., Ed.D., Chair of Bread &
Life and Mary P. Tobin, Vice Chair of St. John’s Bread & Life
will serve as co-hosts for this years event, and are proud to
announce the organization now assists more than 25,000 clients
while providing more than 460,000 meals annually.
St. John’s Bread & Life has been a vibrant part of
neighborhood communities in Brooklyn and Queens’ for 27 years. It’s
newest facility built in Bedford-Stuyvesant in 2008 at 795
Lexington Avenue, is a skillfully designed 22,000 square foot,
two-story facility that houses a chapel, digital food pantry
kiosks, and a soup kitchen while providing a myriad of medical,
financial, legal, clinical, health, counseling and job placement
services offered to New York citizens that are in need.
Founded in 1982, this not-for-profit corporation addresses the
issues of hunger and poverty in Brooklyn and Queens. Their goal is
to combat poverty and to help people achieve self-sufficiency.
