Purpose

Tri Sigma has designed goals to support our mission and establish a Sorority dedicated to friendship, character, and conduct. We strive to provide:

  • Life Success- Create an environment that nurtures women and provides them with the tools they need to achieve success in all aspects of their lives.
  • Women's Empowerment- develop within our members the strength of character needed to be leaders in today's society. Provide experiences that will give sisters the power and conviction to live according to Tri Sigma's beliefs and values.
  • Intellectual and Personal Development- Strive for increasingly higher leavels of scholastic and intellectual achievement. Realize the possibilities of finding our best selves and leading others to theirs.
  • Purposeful Philanthropic and Community Service- Energize the benevolent nature of our membership and society. Provide opportunities to devote time and resources to servicing others where we learn, live and work. Create hope and the lasting commitment within each member to volunteer for a cause greater than ourselves.
  • Responsible Citizens- Realize and teach the components of good citizenship in every setting in which we are a part. Commit to ethical conduct in our personal and professional environments.
  • Meaningful Sisterhood Experiences- Cultivate strong personal friendships to sustain members throughout their life journey. These friendships will evolve into healthy, lifelong relationships that will demonstrate the true meaning of our Sorority.
  • An Environment that Secures and Sustains the Legacy of Tri Sigma- Remember our heritage, commit to the present and plan for our future. Enhance each member's Sorority experience by building a strong financial base and a volunteer and professional support structure that perpetuates sure growth and success.

Our National Philanthropy

The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation provides grants for educational and leadership programs that help women meet the demands of contemporary society. Numerous academic scholarships are provided annually to eligible students. The Foundation also fosters community service with special emphasis on support for play therapy programs for hospitalized children.

The philanthropy is centered around the theme "Sigma Serves Children" specifically through the Robbie Page Memorial. The memorial was originally started to help support research for a polio cure, but once a vaccine was discovered, the focus of Tri Sigma switched to play therapy for hospitalized children. Funds raised by Tri Sigma chapters have built hospital playrooms, provided toys and related equipment, and helped support a specialized field of study for professionals in child development and associated health care professions.

Tri Sigma supports play therapy programs at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill and at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Annual grants also fund graduate assistantships and fellowships in recreational therapy for these hospitals. To also broaden our support and help as many children as possible, the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation works with chapters by providing grants for the local children's hospital play therapy and child life programs. Together with the hospital's support, Tri Sigma creates an environment that helps children overcome their anxiety and fear during their hospital visits.
