Residence Life

Resident students living on the Staten Island campus have the unique opportunity of living in apartment style housing. The Office of Residence Life is made up of several full-time and part-time administrators who are on call 24-hours a day. The resident facility consists of garden-style apartments in the Grymes Hill section of Staten Island. They are adjacent to the Staten Island campus and are maintained by the University Facilities Department and patrolled hourly by Public Safety.

Housing Information
Currently, Residence Life leases 79 student apartments, with the capacity to house 231 students. Just under half of all resident students are freshmen, while the rest are sophomores and juniors and a small number of seniors who select to remain in University housing their last year.  All first-year students are housed in the Courtyard located on Arlo Road.

Each apartment is furnished with a bed, desk, desk chair and dresser per student. Common furniture includes a couch, coffee table, lounge chair, dining table and dining chairs. Every apartment has a bathroom and full-service kitchen complete with refrigerator, microwave and stove.  We also have 11 reserved parking spots for rent which are located on Arlo Road. In addition, a meal plan and wireless internet and cable connection are provided in each apartment. To ensure that students are involved and active, we offer special programming targeted to resident students to enhance their college experience and create a greater community feeling.

A calendar of events is posted monthly offering spiritual, social, cultural, entertainment and educational events. The Residence Life Office, which contains a community room equipped with inviting and comfortable furniture, a 52” flat screen HDTV, video games and a full kitchen, is open until 9 p.m., seven days a week. The Residence Life Council (RLC) affords resident students a significant opportunity to participate and effect change in the community. Through the RLC, students can construct and participate in social, educational and service programs that cater specifically to the students residing in the Residence Life program and is an excellent way for students to get involved on campus and develop individual leadership skills.

Judicial Affairs
The Dean and Assistant Dean of Student Life act as the Judicial Officers for the Staten Island campus and manage all non-academic student discipline issues.

Other Services and Programs that Support the Academic Mission
If for any reason a faculty member must miss a class, Student Life urges faculty members not to cancel the class. Instead, “Don’t Cancel That Class” offers interactive workshops, facilitated by members of the student Life team. The workshops include, but are not limited to, alcohol and other drug awareness, leadership development, career planning and time management! The Office of Student Life also provides Disabled Student Services for students with disabilities defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act Section 504). These services are designed to ensure that all students are able to fully participate in the University’s programs and activities. The goal is to improve the quality of the academic, social and personal lives of the disabled members of our community.
