Academic Lecture Series: Entrepreneurship: Breaking into the Fashion Industry - Queens Campus

April 24, 2008 6:00 PM
Little Theatre, Queens campus

Mr. Knight discusses the benefits of being an entrepreneur and the challenges he faced breaking into the fashion industry.

German born and Atlanta based, Mychael Knight has undoubtedly known that he was designed to be a part of the fashion industry since watching Soul Train in his childhood Montgomery, AL home. After graduating from Georgia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising, Mychael Knight relocated to Atlanta to become a part of the burgeoning urban entertainment industry. Atlanta greeted Mychael with open arms and his work soon became visible on the likes of Queen Latifah, Jagged Edge, 112, Ciara and Free (of BET’s 106 & Park.) His design and fabrication skills have been displayed in a variety of print publications including Upscale and Black Men’s Magazine.

Mychael appeared on season three of BRAVO’s “Project Runway.” Three-design challenge wins and a complete season later, the world is under the spell of Mychael Knight, “fashion designer.” Referred to as the “Fan Favorite” by over 10 million viewers and being penned “the favorite” by his former competitors, Mychael Knight is now the most sought after designer to emerge onto the fashion scene since Zac Posen.
