Professional Development Leadership
Certificate
This Certificate Program provides training to help students
develop and apply professional development skills that will
contribute to their success in their personal and professional
life.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Presentation Skills
Create your own personal “Workshop Plan” for a future
presentation. Review the basics in preparing for a winning
presentation and understand the true meaning behind “Lack of
preparation on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on my
part!” First impressions are crucial…as is making a lasting
impact on your audience. Learn the tricks to creating the
right atmosphere for a successful presentation and the secrets
behind maintaining your audience’s interest and attention.
Dining Etiquette
Learn what it takes to make a great first impression and how to
navigate through a formal dinner with style. During the meal,
students learn the basics of proper dining from use of the napkin,
silverware, and glassware to dinner conversation and what to do at
the conclusion of the meal. During the three-or four-course meal, a
member of the Dining Services professional staff guides
participants through the fine dining experience.
Resume Writing
Learn proper resume format and understand the importance of resume
content. Possess the ability to construct a resume that will
serve as a great base for your future.
Career Networking & Interviews
Skills
Want employers to remember you? Without a doubt, networking
is the #1 job search method and the key to a successful interview
is to understand what you have to offer and to communicate this to
the interviewer(s). This workshop will cover the essential
skills of relationship building for your job or internship search
and provide an interactive opportunity to practice in an informal,
comfortable setting. You will also learn how to prepare for
an interview, discover how to answer difficult questions, and
practice interview questions through role playing.
Internship/Job Search
Many jobs require experience - but how do you get experience when
you are still looking for your first job? This workshop will help
you learn how to gain exposure to a specific industry, gain
valuable hands-on experience, network with professionals and
provide you with the tools to tackle the challenge of creating a
successful internship. Learn how to begin and conduct a job
search campaign to find your ideal job. Understand the hidden job
market and employ proven strategies that are right for you.
Developing your Leadership Skills (fall
semester)
Regardless of where you are professionally, it’s never too late or
early to develop your leadership abilities. With the right
approach, you can improve your effectiveness on the job and enhance
your career prospects. This presentation provides strategies for
inspiring and motivating students to achieve their potential as
well as other skills essential for becoming a successful
leader.

Majors Fair and begin your search for a future career!
