Project HOPE 2013
Project HOPE is a yearly initiative from the Department of Homeless
Services. Volunteers are divided into teams dispersed throughout
the city counting the homeless population on the street. This event
is done late at night to accurately tell where people are living on
the streets. The data collected helps DHS effectively utilize
resources to help the largest number of people. Please dress
appropriately for the weather. It can get very cold and the project
happens rain or shine. Students will be transported their base site
in groups by bus. From there they will be dispersed with a team
leader onto the streets by foot. Areas which the Department of
Homeless Services determines as potentially dangerous will have
NYPD chaperones with the groups.
