Empowering inner strengths and enhancing life skills through mentoring

Mission
The mission of Project A.I.M. aims to assist Asian and International Students with their college transition; and to provide them with a social and an educational environment outside of the classroom where students can enhance English-speaking skills, increase cross-cultural knowledge and involvement at St. John’s University and assimilate to the University community.

Students participating in the program are benefiting from:
• Personal Assistance with English Speaking Skills: As a participant in the group, students have an opportunity to practice their English speaking skills in a supportive environment.
• Weekly Programming: A Project A.I.M. mentee/member can attend a variety of activities in a social setting including educational events, leadership workshops, cultural trips to Manhattan, Broadway Shows, diversity cultural events, Museum trips, dinners, traditional American holiday programs and many more…
• Cultural Awareness: Mentees/Members are invited to a majority of on-and-off campus events/activities celebrating cultural diversity of our students and our nation.
• One To One Interaction with Mentors: Throughout the academic year, mentor offers consistent academic, social and personal support through weekly meeting, weekend activities, and cultural trips. Mentees are enable to interact with with their mentors by phone calls, via e-mails, and personal meetings.
• Community Services: Throughout the academic year, mentors and mentees will together conduct various community services that provide mentors and mentees an opportunity not only to experience the Vincentian Tradition of serving the poor and giving back to the society, but also it strengthens additional bonding within the group.
• Roundtable Discussion: An Asian Student Roundtable Discussion is held each month to provide Asian students to congregate and address issues and concerns that affect their learning journey and campus life at St. John’s.
An International Student Roundtable Discussion is held in the beginning of each semester to provide all international students an opportunity to address their concerns and needs in order to help them improve the quality of their learning at St. John’s and life in the U.S.
