We would like to welcome you, as well as your son or daughter,
to the St. John’s community. Although St. John’s has a large number
of students, we hope to make your son or daughter’s individual
experience both educationally challenging and personally
satisfying. It is our experience both as parents and as longtime
participants in student orientation that parents and/or guardians
are more focused in their expectations and concerns and more open
to our suggestions for success than the students. This is to be
expected since the student’s orientation program is full of
information, new friends and the excitement and apprehension of a
new experience.
For that reason and to satisfy your own questions, we strongly
encourage you to attend Orientation with your son or daughter. You
will learn about the University’s many services and the
opportunities we provide to involve students in the St. John’s
community and in their own personal and intellectual development.
Career development, community service, leadership development and
educational, social and cultural activities of all kinds are
available to our students. You will be able to meet and talk with
our current students to get their views about what it is like to be
a St. John’s student. We believe you will find Parent Orientation
to be a great chance to share in the excitement of going to
college.
We look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Darren Morton, Assistant Vice President for Student
Affairs
James Salnave, Associate Dean for Student
Development
