International Student Orientation

What is Orientation?
Orientation is a time when the University community comes together to embrace and provide academic programs for all new students, whether they are freshman, transfer, international, resident or commuter students.  It is important because it allows you to become more comfortable with the campus, including classroom buildings, student services and parking.  By attending Orientation, you have your first opportunity to beat the lines and establish relationships with the academic deans, registrar and financial aid office.  Most important, you have a chance to meet follow incoming students and current student leaders, allowing you to create crucial friendships that last a lifetime.

As an International student at St. John's University, you will find the orientation program very useful in preparing you for life in your new environment.  Your orientation includes: English as a Second Language (ESL) testing (if your letter of acceptance indicated that you must take it), special international student programs with the Director of International Student and Scholar Services and an orientation program with American students.

We hope to make your adjustment to life in the United States and St. John's a smooth one!  You will receive advice on academic skills, cultural differences, U.S. Immigration requirements and campus survival skills.

You must select/confirm your orientation session based on the college in which you are enrolled. To learn how to register for your orientation session check the "Confirming Your Date" page.

Your Orientation Session
How to Register for Orientation
You must attend Orientation on the date that you are assigned, and you must reserve your space! After we receive your confirmation (via email or confirming online), we will send you a confirmation email that guarantees your space. Here is how to confirm your attendance:

 Confirmation Option One
If you have Internet access, you may confirm your orientation online. Simply log on to our Web site (www.stjohns.edu) and click on the “Login SJUSIS" tab in the lower left corner. On the next screen, click login in the top right corner.  You may also go to www.stjohns.edu/orientation and click the link to register.

The next page will ask you to enter your “User ID” and “pin” number. Your “User ID” is your personal X number (i.e., X12345678) as assigned in your acceptance letter, or your Social Security number without the dashes (i.e., 123456789 for 123-45-6789). Your PIN number is your birth date in month/date/year format (for August 30, 1985, enter 083085). After entering your “User ID” and your pin number, click “Login.”

At the next screen, choose the “Student Services and Financial Aid” menu. Next, choose the “New Student Orientation” menu. If you have been pre-assigned, click “Review/Confirm Orientation.” Follow the instructions on the page.
