Are you interested in living with and near
other residents who share your interests?
Are you looking for a unique academic and residential
experience?
If so, we hope you consider our Learning Communities (LC) during
your freshman year.
At St. John’s, we have enhanced the residential experience by
creating themed and academic cluster Learning Communities. The goal
of the Learning Community is to bridge the academic and residential
experiences. Students involved in the LCs share two core classes,
have regular interactions with the faculty, administrators,
advisors, and other LC students and participate in programs related
to a specific LC theme. The LCs are designed to enhance the
academic experience and help students establish academic and social
support networks within the university setting that will aid them
in a successful transition to the college experience
Through a series of volunteer environmental activities, we hope
to instill a greater awareness of local, regional and global
environmental issues to our faculty, administrators, staff and
students at St. John’s. Our goal is to make you more informed
citizens who are capable of making significant positive
contributions to the well being of our planet. Space is limited so
if you are interested, please indicate the LC for which you would
like to be considered on your housing application.
National statistics show that students involved in
living-learning programs have greater satisfaction with their
college and residence hall experiences, are more academically
engaged and involved on campus and achieve higher grades. Freshman
residents in LCs at St. John's University agree that being involved
in the LC makes it easy to form study groups and speak to others
about class work; that class is more fun thanks to the personal
relationships that have been formed; and that they recommend the LC
experience to others. We hope you will choose to make the most of
your freshman year and consider joining one of the LCs offered at
St. John's University.
