Since 1909, The National Interfraternity Council (IFC at St.
John's) has been serving the men's college fraternity community in
Canada and the United States. Through 64 national fraternities, the
IFC represents almost 4.5 million alumni and 400,000 college
students in over 5,500 chapters or more than 800 college campuses.
The IFC advocates the need of fraternities through the enrichment
of the Greek experience, advancement, and growth of the
fraternities and enhancement of the educational mission of the host
institution. The IFC provides numerous resources and services
to member fraternities and college campuses.
At St. John's University, the Interfraternity Council is the
governing body of 13 fraternities. Its executive board and
cabinet consist of members who were chosen to guide and support the
fraternities through academic programming, leadership training, and
social guidance. Each fraternity is required to have a
delegate present at the Interfraternity Council meetings held every
other week. IFC plans and promotes various activities with the
Panhellenic Council and the African & Latino Fraternal/Sororal
Alliance (ALFSA) such as Greek Week as well as All-Greek
philanthropies and educational workshops to bring the Greeks
together and work as a Community.
