The first Latina based sorority, founded at an Ivy League
institution Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority,
Inc. was established on April 16, 1988 by five strong visionary
women. The founding Hermanas: Patricia Rivera, Maria Caban, Eva
Mari Sosa-Grandison, Migdalia Franklin, and Dr. Irma
Almirall-Padamsee sought to establish an organization that would
transcend their collegiate experience and consolidate their
strengths as responsible women devoted to the unification of the
community.
Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. was
based upon three ideals: La Comunidad (Community), La Cultura
Latina (Latin Culture), and La Hermandad (Sisterhood).
Inherently interwoven within our three ideals are the four
concepts: Academic Excellence, Community Service, Commitment, and
Networking.
Today, Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.
proudly stands, as a community outreach-oriented organization
comprised of undergraduate, graduate, and professional women.
We are located at 26 major colleges and universities throughout the
