The Committees of SGI provide you – the student – with programs
and services, and is regulated by the elected Executive Board. The
chairpersons and co-chairs are appointed by the Executive Board and
approved by the floor of Student Government.
The following is a list of our committees and the services that
each provide:
Academic Affairs
Yvette Clairjeane, Chair
Sabino Curcio & Quidan Yu,
Co-Chairs
This committee is primarily concerned with students’ academic
needs, problems, and procedures. In conjunction with the
Faculty Councils of the five undergraduate colleges, the committee
addresses questions ranging from curriculum and graduation
requirements to grading options and academic fairness. Each
year, the committee is responsible for Academic Forums, the Who’s
Who Among College Students selection process, Meeting of the Minds
Dinner, and the Professor of the Year selection process. The
committee also represents SGI in selecting speakers for the
Academic Lecture Series.

Budget
Catherine Maccio, Chair
Scott Szczesny & Alysha Velez, Co-Chairs
This committee handles organizations’ funding requests, and upon
thorough review, recommends all allocations to the elected
representatives of Student Government, Inc. The chairs of
this committee are also members of the Inter-Greek Budget Committee
and the Cultural Budget Committee.

Elections
Chenele Francis, Chair
Jesseca Naldo & Christina Russo, Co-Chairs
Coordinated under the supervision of the Department of Student
Life, this committee organizes and facilitates all elections of
Student Government, Inc. including Freshman Representative
Elections in the fall semester, as well as Executive Board and
College Representative Elections in the spring semester.

Events Review
Andre McDonald, Chair
Anna Carey & Kamaljit Singh, Co-Chairs
This committee is an integral bridge between the organizations
committee and the budget committee. With the assistance of
SGI members, this committee attends and evaluates the quality of
programs funded by SGI. Their analysis is essential in
assisting with making future recommendations as to the direction of
SGI funding for student organizations & University-wide
events.

Organizations
Michael Molina, Chair
Shannon Carter-Norris & Minyu Hu, Co-Chairs
Besides regulating established organizations’ activities on
campus, this committee handles the formation of new organizations
by making recommendations of applications for the power to
organize, permanent recognition of organizations, and reactivation
of lapsed organizations. Responsibilities also include
monthly Organizational Congress meetings, allocation of
organizational space, and the Organizations Banquet in the
spring.

Public Relations
Vanessa Felix, Chair
Rainée Walker, Co-Chair
This committee is the primary body for the dissemination of
information concerning Student Government, Inc.
Responsibilities include the Spring Activities Fair, SGI
recruitment, suggestion boxes, approval of organizational
publicity, and allocation of advertising space in the Torch to SGI
and all organizations. They are also responsible for the production
and maintenance of the SGI
website.

Research and Development
Daniel LoBrace, Chair
Eric James & Donald Wiggins Jr., Co-Chairs
Assisting with the information and surveying of students is the
principle charge of this committee. Throughout the year, this
committee produces and compiles several surveys through St. John’s
Central and other means to gauge student opinions and morale. The
data gathered plays an integral role in enabling proposals to be
made to the Administration and Executive Board, of the direction of
change and improvements that the student body demands and
needs.

School Spirit

Kyle Mattracion, Joseph Parrelli & Steven Traditi,
Co-Chairs
Promotion of School Spirit throughout the University is the
responsibility of this committee. School Spirit, through the
Redzone Student Section, is there to support the athletic programs
of St. John’s, help with the coordination of Homecoming activities,
and plan away trips to out-of-town games. The committee is
responsible for the promotion of season tickets as well as
organizing game day giveaways, as well as pre-game and post-game
social activities.

Student Affairs
Samantha Songle, Chair
Taryn Glynn & Ellen McBurney, Co-Chairs
This committee is responsible for the coordination and execution
of all marquee events of SGI. These events include the Winter
Carnival, Relay for Life, and the various other charitable projects
and activities. This committee will work with the other
members of SGI to help with events such as Family Grad Dinner,
Awards Nights, and all other SGI events.

Student Services
Scott Reutter, Chair
Kamya Chandra & Nicholas Roloson, Co-Chairs
Keeping in touch with the needs of the general student along
with the internal needs of SGI are the responsibilities of the
Student Services Committee. Working with the Research and
Development committee, they identify student concerns, conduct
appropriate research on the subject, and work with SGI to propose
solutions to the Administration. This committee will also
coordinate the SGI Monthly Focus program.
