Issues Affecting America: Responsible
Citizenship Fall 2008
The Internet continues to grow as a major influence on the
American political scene. Its impact is already evident on the
forthcoming Presidential elections. A seasoned observer of the
World Wide Web and society, Lee Brenner explores this
phenomenon.
A collaborative effort by St. John’s, Wagner College and the
College of Staten Island, the lecture is open to students from all
three colleges as well as invited high school students, community
and civic leaders, local elected officials and their staffs, local
political groups and the general public.
Mr. Brenner is Director of IMPACT (Public Affairs) and Executive
Producer of Political Programming for MySpace. MySpace’s hub for
social and civic engagement, IMPACT empowers users to make a
difference in the world while helping politicians, nonprofits and
civic organizations to connect with its global audience. The IMPACT
Channel houses the official MySpace pages for all major-party
Presidential candidates, as well as tools for voter registration,
fundraising and volunteering.
As his first project with MySpace, Mr. Brenner spearheaded its
partnership with MTV and was an Executive Producer of the
ground-breaking series of MySpace/MTV Presidential Dialogues,
interactive political forums during the 2008 election season. Held
on college campuses nationwide, the Presidential Dialogue series
allows a national audience to post real-time, online questions to
presidential candidates via MySpaceIM.
Prior to joining MySpace, Mr. Brenner was Senior Editorial Producer
of CNN’s “Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer,” the network’s flagship
Sunday public affairs interview program. Mr. Brenner also produced
CNN’s “American Morning” and “NewsNight with Aaron Brown.” He is a
founder of L.J. Bamboo Company (www.ljbamboo.com), a global
lifestyle accessories company that designs luxury diaper bags,
scarves, ties and other accessories.
Mr. Brenner received a B.A. in International Relations from
Tufts University and then a Master Degree in International and
Public Affairs (MIPA) from the University of Hong Kong. A Chicago
native, Brenner now splits his time between Washington, D.C. and
Los Angeles.
