Applying for a Permit

Murray Residence, Food Service, Maintenance, Reserve, Residence Village, Henley and Bartilucci, off campus housing.

Permits are issued from the Public Safety office in person. Residence village permits are determined by the Dean of Residence Life. Once the determination is finalized, a list of eligible resident students is forwarded to Public Safety. These permits are not available to freshmen or sophomores. Eligible students, on assigned designated dates, will be able to pick up their permit at the Public Safety office.

Commuter Students, Faculty Members and Employees:

All permits will be mailed directly to applicant’s home address within five to seven business days.

If users have used the UIS application before and have forgotten their PIN, they can click on the “Forgot PIN” button and follow the on-screen instructions. PIN can also be reset by calling the University Call Center at (718) 990-1198.

Should there be a need to speak to the Bursar or Financial Aid Offices, please dial
(718) 990-2000.

Off-Campus House Parking:
Seton Complex, DePaul House, Henley Road and Bartilucci permits are issued from the Public Safety office in person. These permits are determined by the department senior administrators. Once the determination is finalized, a list of eligible University members (e.g., students, employees, administrators) is forwarded to Public Safety. Note: Same Parking Rules and Regulations apply when using Seton Complex, DePaul House and Henley permits on campus. Bartilucci permit daily hours of validity is 6 a.m. – 11 p.m. (Bartilucci only).

Visitors:
All visitors are requested to obtain and display a valid permit. Visitor permits can be obtained either at the Information Booth at Gate 1 (refer to the map on the back) or at the Public Safety office. Visitor permits are valid from the date of issuance to the date of expiration indicated on the permit.

Overnight Permits (For Residence Village Guests Only):
Guests of a resident student may obtain an overnight permit for up to three consecutive nights. In order to receive the permit, the resident student (of the guest) needs to bring his or her own University StormCard. The guest must also be present with a valid picture ID such as State issued ID and Driver’s License. The fee for this permit is $10 and will be posted to the corresponding resident student’s (host) account. There is no fee for guests who are University members.

Handicap Permits:
The University requires all vehicles parking in handicap parking areas to display a valid University permit (e.g., employee, student, faculty permit) in ADDITION to a State handicap permit or handicap license plate. Every vehicle parked in a handicap area or using a handicap permit for parking must be the valid owner of the handicap permit.

State handicap permit or license plate may be obtained by visiting the New York State DMV Web site at: www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c34.htm — then follow the on-screen instructions.

In short, both University permit and State handicap permit or handicap license plate are required to park in designated handicap parking areas.

Temporary Handicap Permits:

A temporary University handicap permit may be obtained for up to two weeks only by visiting the Public Safety office. Upon visiting, the applicant needs to submit valid medical documents or doctor’s note which indicates that the applicant has established physical limitations. In addition, a valid University StormCard is required. Public Safety will NOT accept any substitute forms or letters. Failure to display a handicap hangtag for any reason — will result in a parking violation with NO APPEAL.

Because Public Safety issues temporary handicap permits for only a two-week interval, it is recommended to visit the New York State DMV Web site to obtain a State handicap permit or license plate upon one’s need. For more information, go to: www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c34.htm

Permits for Summer School Students:
Permits for summer school students are issued by the Public Safety office in person with a valid StormCard between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Monday – Friday. Existing University students can follow the same online procedures as stated under the Commuter Student section (Page 1).
