St. John's University was the site of a town hall luncheon meeting hosted by New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. on July 19. The meeting gave the community an opportunity to hear Thompson speak to a variety of community issues in a casual, intimate setting.

Invited guests included members from Community Board #8 civic associations, particularly Jamaica Estates and other surrounding contiguous groups, who were afforded a unique opportunity to communicate with Thompson in an hour-long question and answer session held in the School of Law’s private dining room on the university’s Queens campus.

“This is another way in which we serve the community,” said St. John’s University Vice President for Community Relations Joseph Sciame. “Today, we’re helping to facilitate the dialogue between the city and the people. Comptroller Thompson is eager to talk to people in this borough in a variety of noteworthy venues. Where better than St. John’s?”

A wide variety of topics were discussed, such as housing, zoning, hospitals, assisted living for seniors, education, reduction in services, infrastructure, libraries and an increased police force, all pertaining to the Borough of Queens.
