St. John's Debate Society Reaches Semifinals at Claremont U.S. Open

The St. John’s debate team of Shreshth Jain and Alia Bellwood reached the semifinals of the U.S. Universities National Open Debate Tournament this weekend hosted by California’s Claremont McKenna College.

The tournament consisted of six rounds of British Parliamentary style debating against students from Claremont College, La Verne College, CSU San Bernardino, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, Willamette University, Portland State University, Loyola Marymount University, and The University of British Columbia.

The tournament featured over 40 teams in intense debate competition.  Donald Bracciodieta, Korey Pace, Zia Durrani and Michael F. Scott also competed in the field representing St. John's.

The team next travels to The University of Toronto for the Hart House invitational tournament in 2 weeks.
