Property and Conduct Analysis of Site
St. John’s University has retained Cushman & Wakefield to
assess and market its Oakdale campus
property, located on the Great South Bay in Suffolk County. The
University, along with Cushman & Wakefield, is evaluating the
Oakdale property and continues to explore all options at this
time.
St. John’s University has invested more than $10 million in
renovating classrooms, laboratories and other buildings on the
Oakdale campus since its purchase from the LaSalle Christian
Brothers in 1999. The University’s academic offerings at the
doctoral and graduate levels have thrived as evidenced by the
school’s current enrollment of close to 300 students; however the
vast 170-acre Oakdale property has gone underutilized, in terms of
size and space, which has led to the assessment study.
The University has had a 10-year relationship with the Suffolk
County community, and at the time of the purchase; St. John’s
University stated its intentions to foster a long-term, mutually
beneficial relationship with the Christian Brothers and the
community while offering quality higher education curriculum. That
commitment continues to this day and the University has no plans to
leave Long Island or discontinue existing programs.
“We plan to continue to be a vibrant presence on Long Island,”
said Rev. Donald
J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s University, “Our
academic commitment remains firm and we will continue to expand our
graduate program offerings to prospective students in Suffolk
County as well as the New York Metropolitan Area – regardless of
any future sale of our Oakdale property.”
Doctoral and Master’s programs offered at the Oakdale Campus in
St. John’s College and the School of Education include: Ed.D. Education
Administration; M.S. School
Psychology; M.S. Literacy
B-6; M.S.
Literacy 5-12; M.L.S.
