To enrich the collegiate experience, Campus Activities seeks to compliment the academic experience by providing extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities that reflect the University's Vincentian, Metropolitan and Catholic mission.
Campus Activities provides quality, student-centered programs, services, involvement opportunities and a comfortable atmosphere that celebrates diversity, promotes retention, fosters leadership, civic engagement, student’s growth and a productive living and learning environment. These opportunities will be made available through numerous programming efforts and services throughout the year, including campus-wide events, student organization initiatives and experiences within and around New York City. Students who get involved in Campus Activities and Student Life benefit from enhanced relationships with their peers and other members of the University community. Ultimately, the learning opportunities provided will add to one’s life experiences-creating future community leaders and enlightened citizens.
St. John’s University houses more than 100 different organizations to engage, entertain, and empower its student population. In order to facilitate students in their effort to get involved, the university has implemented “Common Hour.” The Wednesday class schedule is altered to include a period of time from 1:30 – 3:00 pm during which there are no scheduled classes. The purpose of Common Hour is to promote community and student life involvement and also provides student organizations with the opportunity to schedule meetings, lectures, programs, and other events.
