Living and Learning at the Exciting
Manhattan Campus
Q. Where is the Manhattan campus
located?
A. The Manhattan campus is in one of
the city's most attractive and exciting neighborhoods. Located at
Murray Street and tree-lined West Street, the architecturally
distinctive facility overlooks the bicycle paths and parks along
the scenic West Side Highway. The campus is just across the street
from beautiful Battery Park City, a water-front community with
landscaped public parks, jogging paths, and promenades that stretch
alongside the Hudson River. This is the home of the famous Winter
Garden, with its glass dome, palm trees, and shops.
Also within walking distance of the
Manhattan campus is hip Tribeca, home to actor Robert DeNiro's
Tribeca Film Festival and Tribeca Grill. The neighborhood has many
fine restaurants and cafés. Just to the south is Manhattan's famed
Financial District, where St. John's students find abundant
internship and career opportunities; to the north is Chelsea Pier,
a huge recreational facility on the Hudson River.
Q. What is the residence life like
at St. John's University's Manhattan campus?
A. The Manhattan campus is a
10-story, prize-winning "vertical campus" in lower Manhattan. The
campus features ultramodern facilities with the close-knit,
supportive environment for which St. John's is known. A
full-time, professional Residence Life staff is available
around-the-clock.
Q. What are the residential facilities
like at the Manhattan campus?
A. The residential facilities at the
Manhattan campus are located on the top four floors of the
ten-story facility. Students reside in single or double rooms
with wireless Internet access. The Manhattan campus offers all the
amenities of life at St. John's - comfortable lounges with cable
TV; a game room which includes a ping-pong table, air hockey table,
pool table, and foosball table; and a state of the art weight
room.
The residential facilities match the
beauty of the Manhattan campus itself. Constructed around a
dramatic, four-story atrium, the campus features classrooms,
offices, lounges, space for student clubs, a full-service
cafeteria, a library, and modern athletic facilities.
Q. How do students at the
Manhattan campus travel to and from St. John's campus in
Queens?
A. Students at the Manhattan
campus take the bulk of
their classes at the Queens campus, which they can reach
comfortably and conveniently via a regular shuttle bus service.
Service between the Manhattan and Queens campuses is available on
weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Of course, students at the Manhattan
campus also may use the shuttle service to enjoy the many
additional opportunities available at the Queens campus, including
concerts; seminars; Division I, Red Storm basketball, soccer,
baseball, and lacrosse games; and extra research opportunities at
the main branch of the 1.7 million-volume University
Library.
