Visiting Jurist Series continues with A Conversation
with he Honorable Frederic Block, United States District
Judge for the Eastern District of N.ew York.
Appointed to the federal bench in 1994, Judge Block is a
graduate of Indiana University and Cornell Law School.
After law school, he was a law clerk in the State of New York
Supreme Court, Appellate Division. He then worked as an
associate at New York law firms, becaming a partner in Block,
Amelkin & Hamburger in Smithtown, New York. His practice
included extensive civil and criminal litigation in state and
federal trial and appellate courts. Judge Block served as president
of the Suffolk County Bar Association (1979-80) and as vice
president of the New York State Bar Association (1983-86).
