An Alcohol and Other Drugs Education Program has been established
at the University and operates independently on each campus. Each
program is advised by a committee under the direction of Student
Life and includes administrators, faculty and students. These
programs seek to challenge students to think about their decisions
and to raise the awareness of the entire University community of
issues related to alcohol and other drugs through:
- Educational programs that heighten awareness and
sensitivity
- Planning and facilitating National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness
Week activities and a Safe Spring Break Campaign
- Distributing literature on alcohol and other drugs at
information tables; posting flyers; promoting the services and
resources available on campus
- Participating in National Alcohol Screening Days
- Promoting peer education efforts that focus on alcohol abuse
prevention and other student health and safety issues. On the
Queens campus, this effort is coordinated through collaboration
with the student organization R.E.L.A.X. (Raising Expectations
Limiting the Achievement of eXcellence).
