The Wellness Education and Prevention Services Program has been
established at the University under the auspices of the Department
of Student Wellness. This program seeks to challenge students about
decisions concerning their overall wellness including those related
to the use of alcohol and other drugs. It is
also charged with raising the awareness of the entire University
community of these same issues through:
- Conducting educational programs and lectures that heighten
awareness and sensitivity
- Planning and facilitating events such as National Collegiate
Alcohol Awareness Week activities, Safe Spring Break Campaign,
Great American Smokeout, National Alcohol Screening Days, etc.
- Distributing literature on alcohol and other drugs at
information tables
- Promoting the services and resources available on campus that
support students with overall wellness needs.
- Promoting peer education efforts that focus on alcohol abuse
prevention and other student health and safety issues.
- Requiring all incoming First-Year students to complete the
online course, Alcohol Edu.
- Requiring all incoming First-Year students to participate in
Discover New York Lab Classes as a follow-up component to Alcohol
Edu.
- Providing more intensive small group (CHOICES) and one-to-one
(BASICS) programming for students found in violation of the
University’s Alcohol and Other Drug policies.
