On November 28, 2011 the Tobin College Department of Accounting
and Taxation hosted its first Scholars Reception and Executive
Advisory Board (E-board) panel discussion to launch the new
Accounting Honor’s Curriculum. Eligible students and their parents
were invited to learn about the requirements of the program as well
as hear from E-board members about the advantages to making a
commitment to excel in the field of accounting.
The newly-established scholars program offers curriculum and events
that emphasize the attributes of professionalism, global awareness
and service, a focus of the Tobin College and the University’s
strategic plans. Attendees heard how the program contributes
to a successful professional career; internship preparation; how
the global aspect of the program adds value to the scholar’s
professional development; and what distinguishes a Tobin graduate
from others.

Program participants receive an invitation based on selective
criteria such as a 3.75 overall cumulative GPA, a high school
average above 92 and an SAT score of at least 1200. Once accepted,
students are afforded the opportunity to attend numerous seminars,
participate in a full-time winter internship with an accounting
firm and travel to a foreign country as part of a Global
Destination Course.
