The New York City Police Department informed the Department of Public Safety that at 9 a.m. on August 31, 2017, a male, 63 years of age, reported he was the victim of a robbery that occurred on August 30, 2017, between 11:30 p.m. and midnight on the corner of Union Turnpike and Utopia Parkway. The male reported exiting a bus on the corner and as he stood on the sidewalk outside of Gate 3, on the corner of Union Turnpike and Utopia Parkway, he was approached by two unknown males; no further identifying description was provided. The males punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground and causing minor injuries. Once the victim was on the ground, the males removed a wallet, cellular phone, and backpack from the victim. The two males then fled westbound on Union Turnpike.

The New York City Police Department is actively investigating this incident.

While we know it is never the victim’s fault, remember to always be cognizant of your surroundings when walking off campus, and to walk with others whenever possible. If you are alone, do not use your headphones while walking. If you are approached by someone who demands property from you, comply with their demands and then immediately notify 911 and Public Safety (718-990-5252) as soon as possible. Similarly, if you observe any type of suspicious activity, immediately notify 911 and Public Safety.
