Lewis Rice, Jr. '74SVC received the Alumni Outstanding
Achievement Award of St. John’s University at the 28th Annual
Alumni Convocation on Friday, May 29, 2009.
He received his A.A. in Liberal Arts from St. Vincent’s College
in 1972 and his B.S. in Criminal Justice in 1974. Mr. Rice
began his professional career in 1974 as a Special Agent in the
United States Drug Enforcement Administration, remaining with the
DEA until he retired in January, 2001 as Special Agent-in-Charge of
the New York Division.
Immediately entering the private sector in what would be the
first of a number of senior management capacities, he was named
Director of Security and Asset Protection at Time, Inc. in
February, 2001. From May, 2002 until August, 2003 he served
as Senior Vice President at Prudential Securities, after which Mr.
Rice moved into his current position of Vice President for Global
Security and Trademark Protection at Estee Lauder Companies.
“This is a great night to be invited back to alma
mater,” he said. What’s special about St. John’s is that
they don’t forget their graduates.”
The Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award is an honor reserved
for alumni who have either distinguished themselves in their
personal careers and professions or have made a significant
contribution to the life of the University.
