Richard J. Carbone '69Ed, '77MBA received the Alumni Outstanding
Achievement Award of St. John’s University at the 28th Annual
Alumni Convocation on Friday, May 29, 2009.
He is a double alumnus of St. John’s University. He
received his B.S. in Chemistry from The School of Education in 1969
and his MBA from the College of Business Administration in
1977.
After completing his undergraduate degree he served as a Captain
in the United States Marine Corps, where his intelligence, insight
and patriotism quickly resulted in his assignment as a Platoon
Commander in Vietnam in 1970. Upon returning to civilian
life, Mr. Carbone utilized his leadership skills to embark upon an
exemplary career in business, becoming a Certified Public
Accountant and holding senior management positions with a number of
corporate entities. During his professional career he served
as Managing Director and Controller at Salomon Brothers, Senior
Vice President and Controller at Bankers Trust and Senior Vice
President and Deputy Controller at EF Hutton Group, Inc.
Richard J. Carbone presently serves as Executive Vice President
and Chief Financial Officer at Prudential Financial.
“The reason I came here tonight was not to be honored,” he
noted. “The reason I came is so that the students can look at
someone who went here to see what is possible.”
The Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award is an honor reserved
for alumni who have either distinguished themselves in their
personal careers and professions or have made a significant
contribution to the life of the University.
