Alumni of St. John’s University’s historic Schermerhorn Street
campus gathered at the Staten Island Hilton Garden Inn on October
28 for the Second Annual Schermerhorn Street Reunion. The
event, which gave some the opportunity to see classmates they had
not seen in over 35 years, drew more than 120 alumni and their
families.

Rev. Kevin Creagh, C.M. ’91SVC, ’04PD, assistant vice president,
branch campuses and assistant to the vice president, Institutional
Advancement, offered the invocation and shared current happenings
at the University. William Schaeffer ’73CBA, director, Alumni
Relations also welcomed the graduates, expressed his appreciation
for the hard work of the committee members and related an update on
Alumni Relations and the University.
Flash bulbs went off throughout the afternoon as alumni shared
hugs and gathered for impromptu photos. They also retold
stories of student days while grabbing a bite to eat. ”This was a
great opportunity to see many wonderful friends both past and
present,” shared Steve Maresca ’72CBA. “St. John’s remains an
important part of my life and again the University provided me the
opportunity to see these people who were part of the happiest times
in my life.”
The afternoon concluded with raffles through which nine alumni
won prizes including a basketball signed by Hall of Fame Coach Lou
Carnesecca, two tickets to a St John’s basketball game at Madison
Square Garden, and three tickets to the Radio City Christmas
Spectacular.
Schermerhorn Street alumni were genuinely pleased to see one
another and were grateful for the Reunion.
Tom Joyce ’73CBA, ‘74MBA, who also attended last year’s reunion
said, “Another year, another great chance to see old friends. It is
always a pleasure to get together with other St. John’s
alumni!”
And Vin Marra ’71CBA gratefully said, “Thanks for giving me a
day from the past…I cannot wait for next year’s event.”
