Legacy Scholarship

The Legacy Academic Scholarship Program was established in response to inquiries from alumni seeking scholarship money for their children and grandchildren to attend St. John’s University.

Provisions and Requirements
Applicant must be a high school senior or transfer student who is the child or grandchild of a St. John’s alumnus/a, and who will be matriculating at St. John’s on a full-time basis.

  • Applicant must be accepted to St. John’s in a four- or five-year degree program of study.
  • Applicant must submit a completed scholarship application.
  • Applicant must submit an essay of 350 words (typed and double-spaced) on the following topic: My Past, Present and Future: What My St. John’s University Legacy Means to Me.
  • Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 85% average for all high- school courses.
  • Transfers must have a minimum 3.0 GPA for at least 15 credits.
  • Applicant must agree to attend at least one donor recognition event if invited.
  • Each year of the award, applicant must agree to the terms of the Scholarship and write a thank you letter to the granter explaining what this scholarship means to him or her.
  • Grade transcripts and copies of SAT scores must be submitted with the application.

Amount
$1,250 per year

Length of Time
Four-year period providing the recipient remains in good academic standing.

Verification
The application must be completed by the student of the alumnus/a and signed by a sponsoring alumnus/a in order to verify the relationship of the Alumnus/a to the applicant.

Selection
The Legacy Academic Scholarship Committee evaluates each application. The Office of Financial Aid selects recipients based on the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee. Each applicant will be required to have a Financial Aid Form on file in the Office of Financial Aid at St. John’s University prior to June 16. This form may be obtained from the high school counselor or St. John’s University.

The Office of Alumni Relations will notify recipients by the end of July.
