Red Storm Shocks No. 3 Duke at Garden Showdown

January 31, 2011

The Red Storm shocked the NCAA this past weekend with its stunning upset over No. 3 Duke.

In front of a sell-out crowd at MSG and televised nationally on CBS, St. John’s trounced the defending national champions 93-78 thanks to great ball movement and strong defense. Led by seniors Dwight Hardy and Justin Brownlee, the Johnnies employed an effective full-court press and dominated Duke right from the opening tip.

This impressive upset is the Red Storm’s third win against a ranked opponent this season and solidified the team’s return to relevance, making national headlines and energizing the fan base. In his first year, Head Basketball Coach Steve Lavin has already made significant strides in generating a buzz and electricity around this hard-nosed team.

With St. John’s having one of its best seasons in recent memory, you don’t want to miss any of the action. Be a part of the excitement and pick up tickets to upcoming Red Storm games as the Johnnies look to keep up their winning ways.

Guests enjoyed appetizers, drinks and socializing prior to the exciting victory. Be sure to check out all of our great men’s basketball receptions throughout the season. Our next event will take place on Saturday, February 5, following the game at UCLA. The match up will be a homecoming for Steve Lavin, who previously coached UCLA from 1996-2003.
