March 10, 2010
On Friday, March 5, 2010 alumni and friends from the South
Florida area enjoyed the opportunity to socialize and reconnect
with other members of their St. John’s University family at the
Miami Alumni Chapter Happy Hour in North Miami Beach. The event was
co-hosted and co-sponsored by Darren Kiley
'88SVC, Miami Alumni Chapter Leader and Victor Visconti '68Ed.
The lounge inside the Ramada Marco Polo Beach Resort was filled
with St John’s pride as everyone shared stories from their student
days in the halls and classrooms of the University that continues
to play such an important part in their lives.
"It was great to see so many fellow St. John's alumni in one
room in South Florida,” said Kiley. “Everyone enjoyed
themselves and had a chance to share their stories of what it was
like back when they were on campus. We’ve had so much interest in
the South Florida Chapter lately and I look forward to partnering
with the University in bringing many other cultural, social and
sporting events to our area in the near future."
Guests at the two-hour long event were interested to hear Bill
Lipson, Assistant Director, Office of Alumni Relations share a
number of the recent happenings at the University, including the
dedication and opening of the D’Angelo Center, which has become
the hub of student life on the Queens campus. Lipson also informed
the guests that there are approximately 1,500 alumni currently
living in the South Florida area.
Alumni enjoyed the chance to get together with other graduates
for personal and professional networking within a decidedly social
setting. "This event was really great,” remarked Donald Mason
'01MBA. “It was nice to see so many St. John’s alumni together in
the same place. The South Florida base is strong and it’s great to
see everyone taking advantage of the chance to spend some fun time
with each other."
Capitalizing on the success of this Happy Hour, the Miami Alumni
Chapter is currently planning to host similar events throughout the
remainder of the year.
