2009.

Students
boarded shuttle buses from the Queens campus and were taken
throughout the day to the Lake Success, NY location of Bed, Bath
and Beyond to find any last-minute items they might need for their
dorm rooms. Once at the store, they were welcomed by Bed, Bath and
Beyond staff who wore red St. John’s t-shirts, were given discount
coupons toward their purchases and the opportunity to enter raffle
drawings with a winner announced every hour.
Students were happy with the experience and grateful to St.
John’s for facilitating the trip. “I reconnected with friends at
the store and found everything I was looking for,” said Garry
Wofford '13C. Jeffrey Carrington '10MBA agreed adding, “The
shopping day was well organized and [we] had a great turnout. The
continuous stream of buses helped to make it a success.”
Co-sponsored by the St. John’s Office of Campus Activities,
Office of Residence Life, Office of Alumni Relations and University
corporate partner Bed, Bath and Beyond, the trip was a success,
with so many taking advantage of the opportunity.
“Bed,
Bath and Beyond is pleased to partner with St. John’s with the
‘Back to College’ shopping event,” said Yemisi McDavidson of Bed,
Bath and Beyond. “The large student turnout is a great sign for a
strong partnership. We are proud to offer this benefit to St.
John’s students.”
In addition to its commuter population, St. John’s enjoys a
thriving resident community since on-campus housing was added in
1999.
