St. John’s Goes Out to the Ballgame

August 14, 2008

It was a beautiful night for baseball! More than 100 St. John’s alumni, friends and incoming students attended a Long Island Ducks minor league baseball game at CitiBank Park in Central Islip, New York on Tuesday, August 12, 2008.

Clad in red shirts and hats in honor of St. John’s, attendees had a great time cheering on the Ducks as they played the Lancaster Barnstormers. The group enjoyed a full pre-game picnic dinner and participated in a raffle. Two lucky guests, Diana Servinskas ’68ED and Thomas Rosati, son of Tom (’80ED) and Mary Rosati ’79CBA won copies of 100 Years of St. John’s Basketball, the collector’s book that chronicles the legacy of St. John’s men’s basketball team.

Alumni and students came with their families ready to have fun and enjoy one of America’s favorite pastimes.  “This was a great event!” exclaimed Alba Nastasi ‘56C.  “I received the e-mail invitation and thought it would be a wonderful event for my grandchildren. It’s a really nice family event.”

Diana Serinskas ’68Ed was also pleased that the event catered to alumni living farther east in Long Island.  “It was great that the venue was in Suffolk County.”

John Wolff ’05CPS, a member of the Long Island Duck management team, was also pleased with St. John’s presence in the crowd.  “It was great to see the strong turnout from the alumni of St. John’s,” he said.  “Everyone is having a great family experience.”

The Office of Alumni Relations is planning similar events for next year.
