Albany Chapter Enjoys a Day at The Races

August 07, 2008

About 40 alumni and friends gathered under a Festival Tent for the annual Albany Alumni Chapter sponsored Saratoga Day at the Races in Saratoga Springs, NY. The 350-acre Saratoga Race Course made for a splendid backdrop as the group enjoyed meeting one another and viewing the races.

The excitement was heightened even more during the St. John's University's sponsored second race. A raffle was held and alumni winners included Vincent Petraro, ’77C, ’80L who won a set of St. John's University coasters, Dineen Permahos ’87C who won a padfolio and pen/keychain set and Judith Francomano ’60Ed, the winner of the grand prize, a St. John's inscribed iPod shuffle.

Elizabeth McGowan ’52UC expressed her delight with the event and said she very much appreciates being an alumna. “My four years at St. John's gave me so much value,” she said. “I became a teacher and was able to raise nine children as a young widow.” John Neary ’61CBA serves as the Albany Chapter Coordinator and said the day was a great one and that he hopes such events encourage other alumni to become involved with the chapter. “The event was very good, “he said. “Everyone I spoke to shared that they had a great time. It was an opportunity for alumni both from the local area, and from downstate, to meet one another and share St. John's camaraderie.”
