Lewis Aron ’75G, ’80Ph.D.

Dr. Lewis Aron received his M.A. and Ph.D. from St. John’s University. Internationally recognized as a teacher and lecturer on psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, he is currently Director of the Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis at New York University. He maintains a private practice in New York City and in Port Washington (NY), and has extensive experience in organizational consulting and executive coaching.

Aron has served as President of the Division of Psychoanalysis of the American Psychological Association, Founding President of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP) and Founding President of the Division of Psychologist-Psychoanalysts of the New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA).  He is the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Sandor Ferenczi Center at the New School for Social Research, and is an honorary member of the William Alanson White Psychoanalytic Society. Aron has received the New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA) Distinguished Service Award and the Division of Psychoanalysis Leadership Award.  He holds a Diplomate in Psychoanalysis from the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the Academy of Psychoanalysis. Aron is Co-Founder and Associate Editor of Psychoanalytic Dialogues and Series Editor (with Adrienne Harris) of the Relational Perspectives Book Series. He is the author and editor of numerous articles and books, including A Meeting of Minds (1996), Relational Psychoanalysis: The Emergence of a Tradition (with S. Mitchell, 1999) and A Psychotherapy for the People: Toward a Progressive Psychoanalysis (with Karen Starr, 2013).
