Ellen-ge Denton ’06G, ’08Psy.D.

Dr. Ellen-Ge Denton received her M.S. in School Psychology and her Psy.D. from St. John’s University. She is currently an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, and has taught undergraduate and graduate level Psychology courses at Long Island University, St. Johns University and Queens College. She is also a Clinical Psychology Consultant to community-based projects in Brooklyn, including St. John’s Bread and Life and The Brooklyn Tabernacle, as well as independent youth-based initiatives in Jamaica (NY).

Denton has been funded by the National Institute of Health to investigate feelings of burnout among teachers in Jamaica (West Indies) and New York City. She is currently exploring neighborhood-level and individual-level cultural indicators of depression among individuals with acute coronary syndrome. She has lectured at a variety of community events, scientific conferences and international forums, including at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, the American Psychosomatic Society in Athens (Greece), and the Bi-annual meeting of the European Conference on Personality in Trieste (Italy). Denton was invited to lecture and lead a team of professional adults to the Cambodia Outreach in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) to train Cambodian leaders and provide psycho-education to address childhood trauma. She has also been invited to Georgetown (Guyana) to lead a team in delivering psychological and academic services to sexually and physically abused youth.
