Oh the days of committed bonds to last a lifetime,
Wound together with adolescent love and tears,
As struggles, strifes, and disappointments
Soften with friendly embraces of joy.
Celebrations of glorious birthdays,
Victorious basketball games and scores,
Cheerleaders’ screams, waving banners,
Post game, till dawn, parties bind us tightly.
Sleepover parties to share for eternity,
With sleepless night time frolicking,
Endless conversations, pranks, TV,
Hot buttered popcorn, and gossip galore.
New and old boyfriends and girlfriends,
First kisses, loves never to be had,
Letters never to be sent, clandestine diaries
With entries to treasure 50 years later.
Pomp and ceremony, crowded stadiums, graduation marches,
Degrees, mortar boards, tassels, and flowers,
Dearly loved families with proud smiles and cameras,
Hugging friends sharing promises to always be true.
Final parties sharing sad good-byes
With vowed promises from the heart
That in three months will be broken
For new horizons and accomplishing hopes.
Shedding tears of joy and love
True bonded friends wave good-bye
With mindful days of song and aspirations
Of college days and rewarding careers.
These dear friends later are rarely seen,
Yet are always true eternal friends
When met again many years hence
Seeming like only a day ago.
