Week Fifteen

This week was the last week of service for our theology class. The reason for doing service was to reflect on St. Vincent de Paul’s work in helping the poor. The school brought us to a wet hostel, which is the Irish government’s way of dealing with homeless people who have serious health problems. The reason they are called wet hostels is because the residents are allowed to drink alcohol, even though the staff tries to limit their alcohol consumption.  These hostels allow certain homeless people who have disabilities and need special attention to live in them and receive care paid for by the government.

During the past week a few friends and I traveled to Malahide which is another city in Ireland. There wasn’t anything too exciting about it, but it was nice to see how life is lived in smaller cities unlike Dublin, which is constantly active with night life.

This weekend is the Paddy Wagon trip that the St. John’s students will be taking across western and southern Ireland for three days. This will most likely be a very exciting weekend, but sadly next week is the last week of my Discover the World program.  I’ve had some of the best times of my life here in Europe and I will surely miss it when I leave.
