A native Staten Islander and graduate of St. Joseph by the Sea
High School, Karen LaCava received her B.A. in Communication
Sciences from Hunter College and her M.A. in Speech Pathology from
Queens College.
A 15 year veteran of the cable industry, Karen LaCava currently
serves as the Public Affairs Manager of Time Warner Cable’s New
York City Region. In that capacity she supervises community
outreach and philanthropy, including Connect a Million Minds, the
company-wide initiative designed to connect youth to opportunities
that inspire them to develop the important science, technology,
engineering and math skills they need to become the problem-solvers
of tomorrow.
LaCava joined Staten Island Cable, now Time Warner Cable, in
1993 as Education and Community Affairs Coordinator. In 2001 she
was named Manager of Educational Initiatives for Time Warner Cable
of New York and New Jersey, overseeing educational outreach to more
than 900 schools in the greater New York – New Jersey metropolitan
area. She spearheaded numerous projects, including the Time Warner
Cable Scholarship Program that has awarded over $400,000 in college
tuition assistance to local high school seniors.
LaCava has received three Gilbert Community Service Awards from
the Cable Television Association of New York. She also received the
Cable Television Public Affairs Association Beacon Award for
outstanding effort in education, the Outstanding Community
Leadership in the Service of Youth Award from Susan Wagner High
School, the Women in History Award from Staten Island Technical
High School and the Service to Education Award from Phi Delta
Kappa. In 1997 she was honored as an Outstanding Mother by
New York State Senator Vincent Gentile and in 2009 by the Staten
Island Mental Health Society for her support of their Reading
Volunteers Program.
