Newman Courtyard on the Queens campus was the ideal setting for a
lively summer barbecue taking place before St. John’s 10th Annual
Great Lawn Summer Concert on Wednesday, July 30. Members of
the McCallen Society and The Loughlin Society, two of the
University’s giving societies, enjoyed a relaxing evening with
friends, good food and music.
More than 140 alumni and friends of the University attended the
barbecue and then joined the many members of the St. John’s and
surrounding communities who came to enjoy the selections of the
Queens Symphony Orchestra. Attendees listened to Broadway and
jazz music as they reclined on the Great Lawn and relished a
fitting ending to a fun-filled summer evening.
The various society members overwhelmingly agreed that the
barbecue was an excellent event and anticipate returning for it
again next year. Robert Coli '05CPS, who attended St. John’s
during the 1970s, started his career and then completed his degree
20 years later, was impressed with the evening’s event. He
also expressed his love of St. John’s and the mission of the
Victor Cannizzaro '43CBA is grateful for the beginning that St.
John’s gave him and is excited to participate in events like the
Summer Concert in order to connect with other alumni.
The McCallen Society is the distinguished gift society whose
members honor the St. John's legacy by including the University in
their estate and financial plans.
