Although September usually signals the beginning of fall,
members of the Houston Alumni Chapter chose to prolong the summer a
little longer by gathering for a beach party at the home of Dorothy
and James DeNike ’53C on September 8. An annual tradition among
alumni in the Houston area, 19 chapter members enjoyed lunch and an
afternoon of socializing and relaxation on the beach.
The DeNikes, who have hosted this event for 18 years, were proud
to again open their home to fellow St. John’s alumni. “Dot and I
enjoy the St. John's group and look forward to hosting every year,”
shared DeNike. “I personally have a high regard for St. John's
because of the excellent education I received. I attended on a full
four year scholarship and probably would not have gone to college
without that help.”
“[It was a] nice affair, as always, at the DeNike’s beach
house,” commented Joe Marziotti ’53C. Chapter members had a great
time and plan to continue the tradition in future years.
