Alumni Golf Outing

Alumni Gather for Golf and Good Will
On September 24, 2007 more than 120 golfers attended St. John’s University’s Annual Alumni Golf Outing at the Engineers Country Club in Roslyn Harbor, NY.  Golfers gathered not only for love of the game but for love of serving others.  They played to raise funds for the Long Island Alumni Scholarship, to benefit deserving St. John’s students with financial need residing in Nassau or Suffolk Counties.    

The weather was fine and spirits were high as alumni and friends gathered for registration and brunch in the morning and then went out onto the green to play.  Two cash holes and a challenging course were some of the day’s highlights.  A relaxing evening followed with a cocktail hour, dinner buffet and presentation by University representatives.  

William Schaeffer ’73CBA, director, Alumni Relations thanked the outing’s participants and devoted committee members and presented John Adamovich ’75CBA, ’88HON, the honoree, with gift certificates for dinner at Patsy’s restaurant, tickets to a play of his choice and a one-night stay at a Manhattan hotel as a demonstration of the University community’s gratitude.

Adamovich was recognized for his dedication to St. John’s and his more than 15 years of service as a Committee member for the Alumni Golf Outing.  He was instrumental in raising the $40,000 collected this year for the scholarship through corporate sponsors and private giving.    

This year’s scholarship recipients, Michele Pernice ’12P and Matthew Calamusa ’09C were announced and participants were gratified to know that their efforts to help deserving students gain an education are continuing.  “As a graduate of St. John’s, I realize how important a good education is,” shared Bill Fontanetta ’79SVC.  “St. John’s not only provided that to me, it also gave me access to alumni in the business community.  To be able to provide this to future graduates is a rewarding experience.”
