Alumnae Enjoy a Fashionable Day
November 13, 2007
The 48th Annual Alumnae Fashion Show and Luncheon was held
November 10 at the North Hempstead Country Club in Port Washington,
NY. A group of 95 alumnae and friends gathered for a day of
beautiful fashions in support of the Alumnae Scholarship, which is
awarded annually to a deserving student nominated by a St. John’s
University alumna.

The luncheon began with a welcome from Marisa Pennacchia,
Assistant Director, Alumni Relations for St. John’s College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences. Following the National Anthem, Rev.
Kevin Creagh, C.M. ’91SVC, ’04PD, Assistant Vice President, Branch
Campuses and Assistant to the Vice President of Institutional
Advancement, offered the invocation. Carol Whyzmuzis ’73Ed,
’75GEd, Assistant Professor for the Division of Computer Science,
Mathematics and Science, delivered the opening remarks and
announced the recipient of the scholarship, Monica Follieri ’11C.
“It feels good that [the alumnae] care and they are able to give
money to benefit a good cause,” Follieri said. “I feel this event
connects everyone [the alumnae and the younger generation].”
Fashions from Dress Barn were modeled and raffle prizes were
awarded. Rose Sapelli Esq. ‘57UC, ‘84L said the event was “a great
opportunity to get together with friends and former classmates”
while raising money for the scholarship fund. “It’s important
to give the alumni the opportunity to get together because we get
so scattered and everyone gets so busy in their lives going off in
different directions,” she said. “It’s nice to have that chance to
get together with people you enjoyed being with from when you were
younger and to make a contribution to the University as well.”
Scholarship recipients are selected on the combined basis of
academic performance and financial need and, assuming that they
maintain strict academic standards, retain the grant for the
duration of their four-year course of study.
