March 04, 2008

On Saturday, March 1, alumni and friends gathered at the Sly Fox Inn in Jamaica, NY for the final pre-game reception of the St. John’s University men’s basketball season, hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations.  40 attendees enjoyed food, drinks and a relaxed environment in which to chat about St. John’s basketball and University happenings before the game against Seton Hall University.

The reception attracted first-time attendees as well as long-time supporters of the Red Storm.  And whether or not they had experienced a reception before, guests were delighted with the event.  “Thank you for putting this reception together,” commented first-time attendee John Thomas Kinahan ’87CBA, ’04MBA.  “I never knew what I was missing until now. It was a lot of fun.”

Bill Lipson, Assistant Director, Alumni Relations welcomed guests and thanked everyone in attendance for making this season’s pre-game receptions successful.  Attendees received St John’s alumni hats and were encouraged to return for future alumni events including the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day breakfast and parade scheduled for March 17 and Reunion Celebration Weekend 2008 from June13-15.

Alumni and friends were enthusiastic about this opportunity to mingle, enjoy watching their favorite college basketball team, and reconnect with St. John’s.  “I am glad that my son and I attended this reception,” remarked Michael Cullen ’86SVC, ’88CBA.  “The atmosphere was wonderful and it is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.”

The pre-game receptions could not have come to a better completion.  After the reception, the group attended the game in Carnesecca Arena on the Queens campus and cheered the team on to a thrilling 65-62 win over Seton Hall University.

This season, the Office of Alumni Relations hosted 10 receptions for select home and away games at various locations including Madison Square Garden in New York City.  Be sure to take part in next season’s events!
