The Inn at New Hyde Park in New Hyde Park, NY was the venue for the
event which also served as a business meeting for the TCBAA. About
75 attendees enjoyed a complimentary buffet and drinks at the
annual reception where Larry W. Boone, Ph.D., Associate Professor,
Management and Director, Executive-In-Residence Program; Adrian P.
Fitzimons, Ph.D. ’68Ed, ’71MBA, Professor, Accounting and Taxation;
and Igor M. Tomic, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Economics and
Finance and Academic Director, Financial Services Institute were
the honorees. TCBAA President Catherine Camera ’65CBA said there
was special importance to recognizing the faculty. “Things are
tough out there right now and the economy is a little unsure, but
something we can always depend on is excellence, especially
excellence in the Vincentian spirit,” she said. “When we see it, we
need to recognize it and honor it.”
The evening drew a mixture of established graduates, more recent
alumni and students. Michael Kelly ’75CBA said he saw value in
paying homage to three business professors who have had such an
influence on their classes. “”It’s very appropriate for the
students who are here to see how the University honors professors,”
he said. “This is also an excellent networking opportunity. St.
John’s has a great reputation for keeping alumni connected.”
Student Caitlin Inglis ’11TCB, a member of Beta Alpha Psi an
honorary organization for financial information students and
professionals, said she enjoyed being at an event with so man
successful alumni. “It gives us a different experience outside of
the classroom and campus,” she said.
The evening’s formal program kicked off with opening remarks by
Bill Schaeffer ’73CBA, Director of the Office of Alumni Relations
followed by the invocation by Rev. James F. Dorr, C.M. ’79GEd.
After Camera welcomed those present, Steven Papamarcos, Ph.D., Dean
of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, gave updates on some of
the many happenings at the college and former TCBAA President
Kenneth Ramondino ’77CBA, ’81MBA offered remarks and oversaw a
motion to accept new board members. Presentations of plaques were
made to the honorees and a special tribute was held to honor John
W. Dobbins, Jr., Ph.D. a beloved TCB professor who passed away in
March.
