The day started in the Health Education Resource Center (HERC),
located in St. Augustine Hall, with registration, a continental
breakfast and a student research poster exhibition. Attendees
reconnected with the College’s faculty and discussed various
research projects with students who were present to explain their
work.
The main presentation, held in Sullivan Hall, featured keynote
speaker and alumnus, Dr. Mansoor Khan ’92P, director of product
quality research in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He spoke on the topic,
“Opportunities and Challenges: FDA Perspectives on Pharmaceutical
Product Development in the 21st Century.” Dr. Khan addressed issues
including the current trend of product submissions and approvals in
the US, development patterns of new products, generic products and
biotech products and safety issues with current product development
practices.
At the conclusion of the presentation, a question-and-answer
period was held with attendees. Dr. Robert A.
Mangione, dean and clinical professor of pharmacy, then
presented a plaque to Dr. Khan in recognition of his outstanding
leadership in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. “We are
delighted and honored that Dr. Charles I. Jarowski permitted us to
name this annual symposia in his honor. We look forward to
continuing to invite world class speakers to give the keynote
address,” commented Dean Mangione.
The final part of the day’s events was a dedication and
luncheon, held in HERC. Dean Mangione dedicated the seminar to Dr.
Jarowski who gratefully accepted the honor and entertained the
audience with a few of his favorite research stories. Those in
attendance also recognized the work of Dr. Jarowski and enjoyed
spending the day with former classmates. Christopher Catapano ’83P
enthusiastically said, “It was a pleasure seeing all of the
familiar faces that I went to school with. For a first-time
program, it was a success; best of luck to Dr. Jarowski!”
Pharmacy professionals who took part in the day’s events were
also eligible to receive one professional continuing education
credit, to meet their annual requirement.
