Soccer Alumni Return for Scrimmage

August 30, 2007

More than 20 men’s soccer alumni returned to St. John’s for a friendly scrimmage in Belson Stadium at the Queens campus on August 18. The group, whose members spanned over 30 years of St. John’s soccer history, participated in this long-standing tradition at the University.

Recent alumni such as last year’s team captain, Georgios Spanos ’07C and several players from the 1996 National Championship Team, Paul Cusano ’99C, ’01MBA, Kevin Daly ‘98C ’00GEd, Ben Hickey ’97SVC, ‘99MBA, Ricardo Joseph ’97CBA, ’99MBA and Jesse Van Saun ’01CPS joined prominent alumni from years past, Fred Bischoff ’83CBA, Ken Colucci ’87CBA, Jimmy Hanna ’83CBA, ’85MBA and Ed Silva ’85CBA, ’99MBA for the game.

The annual alumni game was followed by an inter-squad “Red v White” game, where members of the current team played off against each other. And alumni were able to watch the inter-squad game while enjoying a barbecue dinner.

Many of the alumni who attended helped organize this year’s event and continue to offer support to the University. "We have great alumni who stay connected with the program,” commented Coach Dr. Dave Masur, Head Coach, Men’s Soccer. “It’s a fun event to catch up with everyone and another example of the real family atmosphere that makes St. John's Soccer special."
