Board of Governors Welcomes New Members

St. John’s University recently added four new members to its Board of Governors, all of who are alumni. The new members include Maureen C. Depp ’76CBA, Frank L. Kurre ’84CBA, James J. Shannon ’87CBA and Tarik S. Turner ‘98C.

The Board of Governors is a select group that advises the Board of Trustees and the University President on strategic issues related to St. John’s.

Maureen C. Depp earned her B.S. in Business Administration from St. John’s University’s College of Business Administration in 1976, and later earned an M.B.A. from the University of Rhode Island. Currently Vice President and Co-Director of Equity Research at Loomis Sayles & Company LP, a post she has held since July 2005 Depp has co-managed the Loomis Sayles Research Fund and co-led the equity research analyst teams that provide investment ideas and buy and sell recommendations for the fund. She previously served as Assistant Director and then Managing Director of Research at State Street Research & Management Company.

Frank L. Kurre received his B.S. in Accounting from St. John’s University’s College of Business Administration in 1984. He is currently National Managing Partner – Not-for-Profit and Higher Education Practices at Grant Thornton LLP, where he is responsible for all services performed by the firm for not-for-profit clients nationwide. Prior to joining Grant Thornton LLP he served as Partner-in-Charge – Northeast Higher Education and Not-for-Profit Practices at Arthur Andersen LLP. Kurre is a member of a number of professional business and not-for-profit organizations and is presently studying to become a Deacon of the Catholic Church. He supports St. John’s through participation in The Loughlin Society.

James J. Shannon earned his B.S. in Finance from St. John’s University’s College of Business Administration in1987 and presently serves as Principal, Director of Trading at Indus Capital Partners, LLC, an employee-owned investment firm specializing in public and private equity in the Asia Pacific region, Japan and Europe. As head of Indus’ global trading team, he is responsible for all equity, currency, futures and derivative trading. Prior to his current position he acquired extensive trading experience within the global equity and derivatives markets at firms such as Soros Fund Management, GE Investments and Chase. He began his career at Wagner Stott Clearing Corporation, working within their Trade Clearing and Customer Operations area.

Tarik S. Turner graduated in 1998 from St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a B.A. in History. While at St. John’s Turner was a member of the men’s basketball team and currently brings his playing experience to bear as the St. John’s Basketball Analyst on SportsNet New York (SNY), a New York City-based regional cable television network featuring BIG EAST Conference basketball games, and on Bloomberg Radio, an AM station also located in New York. He supports the University as a member of The Loughlin Society.
