
Over 400 St. John’s School of Law alumni gathered at the New York
Hilton for their
Alumni Association Luncheon, held in conjunction with the
Annual Meeting of the New York State Bar Association. They were
joined by faculty and administrators of the School of Law as well
as esteemed members of the judiciary, including New York’s Chief
Administrative Judge A. Gail Prudenti and former Court of Appeals
Judges Judith S. Kaye and Joseph W. Bellacosa ’59C, ’61L,
’87HON.
“This is always a very special event for the Law School community,”
noted Michael A. Simons, J.D., Dean and John V. Brennan Professor
of Law and Ethics. “It is a tribute to the fine lawyers, jurists
and citizens who hold a St. John’s law degree and who selflessly
support our mission. Through their mentorship and support, our
alumni play a vital role in helping our students develop their
paths to the profession.”
A highlight of the event was the presentation of prestigious awards
to alumni and friends for their exceptional contributions to the
University, the legal profession or the community-at-large.
The St. Thomas More Award was presented to Carmen Beauchamp
Ciparick ’67L, ’03HON, Senior Associate Judge of the New York State
Court of Appeals in recognition of her outstanding moral
leadership.
The Belson Medal, named in honor of Maxine (’98HON) and Jerome
Belson ’48L, ’80HON and awarded to an individual who has
demonstrated a special loyalty to the School of Law and respect for
the University’s mission, was presented to Daniel A. DeVito ’87L,
Gina DeVito, Cary Fields ’86HON, Kathy Fields, Erica B. Fine ’82L,
Hon. Guy J. Mangano ’55L, ’83HON, Joseph M. Mattone, Sr. ’53C,
’55L, ’94HON, Mary Ann Mattone, Robert J. Nobile ’84L, Judith A.
Wild and Robert A. Wild ’67L.
The luncheon concluded with the presentation of the Recent Graduate
Service Award to Kathryn M. Carney Cole ’02L for her outstanding
service to the graduates of the School of Law.
