Congratulations! Your status as an endowed scholarship
recipient makes you one of approximately 800 of our more than
20,000 students who receive this type of assistance annually to
help them achieve their goals.
Endowed scholarships are established through the generosity of
St. John’s University alumni, friends, parents and corporations who
have made a significant contribution to your future. These donors
wish to demonstrate how much St. John’s has helped them to succeed.
All of our scholarship grantors share the goal of doing what they
can to help you become a future leader.
You were selected to receive a scholarship by the Office of
Student Financial Services or your Academic Dean because you fit
the criteria established by the grantor. Many of our grantors
choose criteria, such as grade point and financial need, that are
significant to their lives or the loved ones for whom the
scholarship is named. If you choose to accept your scholarship, you
are required to participate in the Endowment Program and attend at
least one Career Center event or
session.
The Endowment Program requires you to write a thank-you letter
to the donor or donors of your scholarship. The letter you submit
online is sent to the donor, donor’s family or designee(s) and
allows the donor to see how the scholarship is helping. You may
have the opportunity to meet your grantor at the spring Endowed
Donor Scholarship Reception, but for those grantors who cannot
attend your letter is their only interaction with you. Feel free to
utilize the Writing Center’s professional staff to compose your
letter. They may be reached by calling (718) 990-2171 on the Queens
campus or (718) 390-4158 on the Staten Island campus. If you so
chose, you may also make an appointment online by visiting www.stjohns.edu/writingcenter
